Darksiders 3 tells the story of the next of the four apocalyptic riders. This time we play the whip swinging Fury. In the old series tradition their adventure takes place again parallel to the first two parts. While war and death are busy washing away war names, Fury hunts down the seven deadly sins. Darksiders 3 returns to the first part in some points. So there is no Diablo booty system and no dialogue options anymore, so the role-playing part recedes into the background. Instead, the action becomes more challenging: Fury fights smaller groups of opponents instead of huge hordes, who have a lot more on their plate and demand precise timing. The game world is a single huge dungeon, which we explore freely in Metroidvania style. Through new items and abilities we make new areas accessible to us. Sometimes we can even decide in which order we want to hunt down the seven boss opponents.
When Fury, one of the apocalyptic horsemen, is ordered to the fiery advice, the world is already in an almost hopeless fight between heaven and hell. Her brother War is in chains and is accused of having arbitrarily instigated the Apocalypse. Death, another horseman, has disappeared and Hader, the last of the siblings, also seems to be prevented. Anyone who has had nothing to do with Darksiders so far will have problems with both the introduction to the story and the characters, despite the really good German localization. Who or what is the Fiery Council? What has war done? Where is death? Why does the hot-headed sister have to hunt down and kill the seven deadly sins? Why did Fury keep the English name while all the others were Germanized and could have given her a localized name with fury or rage? Why is she always called a horseman and not a horsewoman? And why were the riders changed in contrast to the biblical tradition?
